We know that making the first step to coming to church, either for the first time or after being away for a long time, can be difficult. That's why we decided to have an event that enabled everyone to come along and be a part of our community and our churches.
The Open House event consisted of: a huge display of old photos of the parish on the walls of the hall; a stall describing church activities such as Alpha courses; a meal; a poem by Alastair Smart; handbells performance; a video about our churches; a puppet demonstrations and plenty of catching up with old friends. Every one who came received a Cushnie & Tough leather bookmark with our logo inscibed.
The event was featured in the Press & Journal and an extract is shown below.
The events on both dates were a great success with over 70 people attending on the Friday and over 50 people attending on the Saturday - not bad considering the weather!
Our very large signs caused a great deal of mystery in the area- the first one was posted for a week on its own and simply said "its coming", the second was posted the following week and it said, "nearly here" and the third and final poster replaced the last and asked "are you coming"?
The old photos really got people
talking and set the scene for
a wonderful day.
