These jumpers are for babies born into a world of poverty in Africa. Many of them have aids and because of the shortage of clothing they are sent home wrapped in newspaper. Dubbed "fish and chip babies" they have sparked off a worldwide campaign by home knitters.
Even as we speak, knitters all over our Gordon presbytery are amassing bagfuls of little jumpers, hats, booties and teddies. At one stage we ran out of space locally to hold the bags of stuff. We thought about telling all the home knitters to slow down a bit or even to stop knitting for a while. However space was found on a Blythswood lorry and we were able to move the knitting down the line to a depot to await despatch to Africa. If you want to try your hand at knitting see the link to the Gordon Presbytery Website where you'll find the patterns. Then get in touch with our Minister, details on the "contact us" page, to find out where you can take your finished articles.
